Maroon Bells

If you want to add on to your Independence Pass trip or make a separate trip, we suggest taking a drive to the Maroon Bells. You do have to arrive early to drive to Maroon Lake or take a bus from Highlands Ski Resort. No matter what, the views are breathtaking with the backdrop of Colorado’s most photographed peaks.

Trail Ridge Road

For more of an adventure, venture to Rocky Mountain National Park and take Trail Ridge Road. Go early or midweek to avoid traffic.

Colorado’s fall colors are usually at their best late September to early October. Cooler nighttime temperatures start the process that turns leaves their spectacular orange, gold, and red colors. Click here for an interactive week by week prediction of the colors.
